Hyundai Motor India today inaugurated the Hyundai Professional Development Center at the Pusa Institute of Technology, New Delhi, a premier polytechnic institute in India.
The Korean carmaker’s tie-up with the institute is in line with its CSR programme to offer support to young students by enabling study material on the latest technologies through tie-ups with polytechnic institutes encompassing specially designed curriculum, training material, cars, engines, gearboxes and other learning aids.
According to Y K Koo, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India, “We are very happy about this association with the Pusa Institute of Technology. As a responsible corporate citizen, Hyundai advocates creating a constant resource pool of skilled ‘Service Advisors’ for the automobile service industry. As a manufacturer, it is our duty and responsibility to continue such initiatives to benefit the industry and society on the whole.”
The new curriculum will expose automobile trade students to modern automobile technologies, thereby increasing their employability and career prospects. The new syllabus and practical training at dealerships will add yet another dimension to the existing syllabus supported by Hyundai. Holistically, the programme will benefit polytechnic colleges in developing skilled professionals for the Indian automotive service industry, which is experiencing a dire shortage of well-trained staff.
Under its CSR Skill Development Program, Hyundai Motor India effected its first ITI tie-up in 2012. At present, the company has tie-ups with 38 ITIs across India with a minimum of one ITI tie-up in each state. Almost 95 percent of trained graduates from the Skill Development Program (2012-2015) were recruited by Hyundai dealerships in 2016. Hyundai says the programme has already benefited over 1,000 students who studied the course at ITIs across the country.
