India Yamaha Motor has launched the new FZ-X at Rs 116,800 (ex-showroom Delhi), which is based on the standard FZ Series motorcycle. There is also a Bluetooth-equipped variant that costs Rs 120,000, due to its smartphone connectivity.
Compared to the FZ, the new FZ-X bears very different styling. This is amply seen in the circular headlamp, LED DRL, plastic sump guard, the tall fuel tank that stretches right to the single-piece seat or the all-digital dash.
The Bluetooth-enabled model allows riders to check smartphone notifications, look at maintenance recommendations, track the bike’s last parking location, track fuel consumption, receive malfunction notification, and also displays data such as engine rpm, degree of throttle opening, rate of acceleration, an eco-friendly riding indicator, etc on your smartphone.
The bike also comes with bi-functional LED headlight with DRL, negative LCD console with a power socket, and side stand engine cut off switch which is a standard and mandatory feature for all Yamaha two-wheelers in India.
The FZ-X shares its 149cc single-cylinder engine with its FZ siblings. The power and torque figures are identical as well – 12.4hp at 13.3Nm. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox.
Underneath the new bodywork, the FZ-X and FZ are the same. The motorcycle employs a single downtube frame, suspended by a telescopic fork and preload adjustable monoshock. The FZ-X has a kerb weight figure of 139kg, which makes it 4kg heavier than the standard FZ. The FZ-X's seat height is also 20mm higher at 810mm. While the FZ and FZ-X ride on 17-inch alloys, the latter's wheels are shod with block pattern tyres. On the safety front, the motorcycle is equipped with Bosch single-channel ABS.
The FZ-X will be available in the market by the end of June in three colours: Metallic Blue, Matt Copper and Matt Black.
In April-May 2021, India Yamaha Motor sold 45,826 two-wheelers and currently has a market share of 3.40 percent. In FY2021, the company had sold a total of 524,186 units for a market share of 3.47 percent. Will the new FZ-X add some new fizz to its sales and motorcycle market share, currently at 3.20 percent?
