India Kawasaki Motors’ sixth standalone showroom is all set to be inaugurated in Mumbai on June 21, 2015. The Japanese superbike maker already has its standalone showrooms in Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata, which was the last to be inaugurated on January 29, 2015.
Kawasaki, which is known for opening its standalone dealerships only after setting up a fully service capable and technically sound team of engineers at each of its showrooms, offers a wide range of 10 superbikes in its portfolio. Of these, while six models are imported as completely built units (CBUs), the other four come in as completely knocked down units (CKDs) and are assembled at Bajaj Auto’s Akurdi facility in Pune.
The recently launched Kawasaki Ninja H2 (April 3, 2015; priced at Rs 29 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi) stands as an exception as it was sold to only a few premium customers. The model, also the fastest sportsbike from the stable of Kawasaki, was the company’s 11th product in India. The company is looking to open at least three more new showrooms in India later this year as it gears up to bring in two new models too.
SIAM industry data has it that the company sold 1,247 units during FY2014-15, growing by 25.33 percent over FY2013-14’s sales of 995 units. Interestingly, the company is known to have sold more than 1,000 units through the sales made via Bajaj Auto outlets, totalling its overall India sales to easily more than 2,200 units during the last financial year.
Furthermore, the company has sold 253 units during April-May 2015, which stands at close to 9 percent growth year-on-year, through its standalone outlets only.
