IMTEX 2013 to boost tool business in Auto sector

Bangalore, January 8, 2013: IMTEX 2013, the 16th Indian metal-cutting machine tool exhibition to be held later this month, will help drive new business opportunities for Indian tool makers in the manufacturing sector, particularly the automotive sector. Speaking at a media meeting earlier today, Vikram Sirur, president of Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers Association (IMTMA), said at present, sluggish commercial vehicle (CV) sales have hit the Indian machine tool (MT) industry to some extent. He added that the mining ban in some parts of the country have impacted the CV sector which, in turn, has affected the machine tool industry adversely.

“There was a marginal deceleration in demand for metal working machine tools due to sluggish demand in the automotive industry,” he said. However, he said the MT industry will continue to get good business from the two-wheeler and four-wheeler industry.

He said the automotive and its related sectors account for 35-40 percent of the total MT industry’s business of Rs 11,764 crore in 2011-12. “In the current fiscal too, we expect to record a same share of business from the auto industry,” he added

IMTEX 2013, which will be conducted by IMTMA from January 24-30 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, is expected to generate business enquiries worth Rs 8,750 crore compared to Rs 7,000 crore worth of enquiries generated at the last expo in 2011. The apex machine tool exhibition of South and South-East Asia, IMTEX 2013 will house over 900 exhibitors and overseas participants from 25 countries. Concurrent to IMTEX 2013, IMTMA is also organising Tooltech 2013, the 15th international exhibition of cutting tools, tooling systems, machine tool accessories, metrology and CAC/CAM, at the same venue.

The expo is expected to draw 11 lakh business visitors and see deals worth an estimated Rs 1,200 crore signed compared to 92,500 visitors and deals worth Rs 1,022 crore that were inked in the 2011 event.
