Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced that its Shine brand of motorcycles – the Shine 125 and Sp125 – have clocked 30 lakh or 3 million sales in three western India states – Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa.
As per the company, while the first 1.5 million sales took 15 years, the next 1.5 million units were sold in just six-and-a-half years. Of the 3 million units, Maharashtra accounts for 66% of the sales or 20 lakh units.
While the Shine 125 drum-brake variant is priced at Rs 77,400 (on-road Mumbai), the disc brake sibling costs Rs 81,400. The SP 125 (drum) is priced at Rs 82,500 and the disc brake variant at Rs 86,500.
The Honda Shine 125 is based on the same platform as the SP 125 and is available in two variants – a drum brake option and a disc brake option. The Honda Shine 125 gets a raft of new features including a silent start system (ACG starter in Honda speak), which eliminates the need for a conventional starter, a new instrument cluster and a halogen headlight unit that runs on DC power.
The SP 125 is powered by the same 123.94cc, single-cylinder BS VI OBD2-compliant PGM-FI engine that develops 8 kW power and 10.9 Nm of torque.
In an effort to capture sales in the festive season, on September 27, HMSI launched the SP125 Sports Edition priced at Rs 90,567 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and has begun taking bookings at all Honda Red Wing dealerships across the country. Key highlights of the new Honda are its aggressive tank design, matte muffler cover and enhanced graphics along with new vibrant stripes on the body panels and alloy wheels. It also gets an LED headlamp, a fully digital instrument console with a gear position indicator and other mileage information. The SP125 Sports Edition is available in blue metallic and grey metallic colours.
HMSI has sold a total of 22,06,064 two-wheelers in the first six months of FY2023, down 4.50% YoY (H1 FY2023: 23,10,050 units). Of this motorcycle sales comprised 921,863 units (down 4.73% YoY), accounting for 41.78% of total two-wheeler sales. As per wholesale numbers released by SIAM, combined sales of the 125cc Shine were 605,472 units, down 17% YoY (H1 FY2023: 7,31,120 units).
Honda also sold a total of 12,84,201 scooters, down 4.33% YoY (H1 FY2023: 13,42,345) in the April-September 2023 period.
