In an effort to capture sales in the festive season, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has launched the SP125 Sports Edition which is priced at Rs 90,567 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company has opened bookings at all Honda Red Wing dealerships across the country. This is the company's seventh new motorcycle launch in the past two months (see details below).
Speaking on the new motorcycle, Tsutsumu Otani, MD, President and CEO, HMSI, said: “Ever since its introduction, the Honda SP125 has excited customers with its advanced features, stylish design and thrilling performance in the 125cc premium commuter motorcycle segment. We are confident that the new SP125 Sports Edition will further delight our customers, especially the younger generation.”
The SP125 Sports Edition is powered by a 123.94cc, single-cylinder BS VI OBD2- compliant PGM-FI engine that develops 8 kW power and 10.9 Nm of torque.
Key highlights of the new Honda are its aggressive tank design, matte muffler cover and enhanced graphics along with new vibrant stripes on the body panels and alloy wheels. It also gets an LED headlamp, a fully digital instrument console with a gear position indicator and other mileage information. The SP125 Sports Edition is available in blue metallic and grey metallic colours.
UPPING THE ANTE IN BIKES, SEVEN NEW PRODUCTS IN TWO MONTHS
The SP125 Sports Edition marks the seventh motorcycle launch for HMSI in the two months. The company had launched the CB200X on September 15, the CB300F on September 11, Hornet 2.0 on August 28, the MY2023 110cc Livo commuter bike on August 19, the CD110 Dream Deluxe on August 10, and the SP160 on August 8. Clearly, the Japanese two-wheeler major is upping the ante on the motorcycle front and looking to capture fresh demand emanating out of the festive season.
In August 2023, HMSI sold a total of 451,200 two-wheelers, up 6.60% (August 2022: 423,226 units), which includes 256,870 scooters (up 2.39%, August 2022: 250,857 units) and 194,330 motorcycles (up 12.74%, August 2022: 172,369 units). This gives it a market share of 46.76% in scooters and 19.81% in motorcycles.
