HMSI’s CB Shine races past 3 million sales milestone
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s (HMSI) has rolled out its three millionth CB Shine motorcycle from the company’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s (HMSI) has rolled out its three millionth CB Shine motorcycle from the company’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. With this milestone, HMSI says the bike, its best-selling motorcycle in India, has become ‘India’s highest-selling 125cc motorcycle’ and also the first-ever 125cc motorcycle globally to achieve the 30 lakh unit mark. At present, every third 125cc motorcycle bought in India is a CB Shine, which has a 33 market share in its segment in 2013-14.
Commenting on the milestone, Keita Muramatsu, president and CEO, HMSI, said: “The CB Shine is not only the No. 1 selling 125cc motorcycle in India but also the world. For the first time, in FY’14, the CB Shine has become the No. 1 selling motorcycle for Honda Motor Company, Japan worldwide.”
Y S Guleria, VP (sales and marketing), HMSI, said: “The CB Shine has become India’s first ever 125cc motorcycle to achieve 30 lakh unit sales. This reaffirms that the CB Shine is universally accepted by customers.”
To meet demand for the bike, HMSI is producing the CB Shine at both its Tapukara (Rajasthan) and Narsapura (Karnataka) plants, which have a combined manufacturing capacity of 3 million units per annum.
HMSI has been averaging handsome growth since the past three fiscals. Its motorcycle stable of around 13 products sold a total of 1,655,548 units in 2013-14, notching 39.50 percent growth YoY, and accounting for 46.52 percent of HMSI’s overall two-wheeler sales of 3,558,407 units in 2013-14 (as per SIAM data).
