As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), initiative, Arvind Saxena, president and MD, General Motors India, recently handed over a cheque for Rs 150,000 to the school authorities at Sankalp School, Gurgaon for the education, meals and hygiene of One Class in the presence of other GM India senior leadership. Apart from financial assistance, GM India has committed full support to the school in the future as well.
GM India has been associated with Sankalp School for many years now. As part of corporate social responsibility (CSR), the company has organized activities for the students including educational training programs, road safety classes and frequent visits to GM India’s headquarters for training and education purposes. It may be recalled that on the occasion of India’s Children’s Day on November 14, 2013, GM India donated 91 indestructible ‘One World Futbols’ to the children of the school.
Meanwhile, General Motors Technical Center India (GMTC-I) undertook fund raising activity in April 2014 for the basic educational needs of students at Gunjur Government School in Bangalore. GMTC-I has been actively involved in raising funds to provide infrastructural support and nutritional assistance to the children of Gunjur Government School since 2011.
The CSR initiative sees a yearly fund raising activity to sponsor school kits comprising school bags, school shoes and stationery. The idea is to ensure the basic requisites of students are met from time to time so that their parents are encouraged to send them to study rather than sending them to work and earn a living at an early age. The distribution of school kits to Gunjur Government School will take place in June 2014, just before the start of the academic year.
GMTC-I says its goal as part of CSR is to make education accessible to majority of the children in surrounding localities from underprivileged sections of society. GMTC-I has a committee of active employees who volunteer to host learning sessions, teach English and conduct science experiments for these children. The committee also organises student visits to GMTC-I, hosts sporting events and fun learning events.
