GM India’s Halol plant commissions new biogas unit

GM India has taken one step further towards its drive for improving environmental performance by commissioning a new biogas facility at the state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Halol, Gujarat. Biogas will be generated from biodegradable waste of food, fruits and vegetable through anaerobic fermentation process. The biogas, which is considered to be a cost-effective renewable source of energy which is non-polluting and reduces landfills and greenhouse effect, will now be utilised in the canteen for cooking purpose, resulting in a more cost-effective solution.

Philip Kienle, vice-president (Manufacturing), GMIO and GM China, inaugurated the biogas plant last month during his visit to the Halol manufacturing facility in presence of Norman Strachan, quality director of GM China and Dianne L Smith, finance director, GMIO (Manufacturing).
