Industry experts say that legislation needs to be technology-agnostic and regulation has to be fuel-neutral for sustainable long-term benefits.
NR Raje: "In 2019, an IIT Kanpur survey indicated the direct link between PM 2.5 and respiratory/heart diseases.Gasoline and CNG contribute substantially towards particulate matter. BS VI diesel engines emit lesser PM. We need tighter norms for PFI engines in India"
CV Raman: "Road dust, industry stack are bigger contributors of particulate matter than vehicles. The DITC (Direct Injection Turbo Charged) engine has to work on improved emission level to meet the norms by 2030."
Dr Adolfo Perujo: “Two-wheelers are a heavy source of emission, especially PM. Compliance is needed throughout a vehicle's lifetime under all conditions with emphasis on road performance. Pollutant emissions need to be considered along with CO2/GHG emission."
Rashmi Urdhwareshe: "Huge potential for India over next 5 years, clear roadmap charted out. Real driving emission a crucial aspect to address, in context of India specific challenges."
Garima Sharma: "Fleet modernisation is very important. It is important that we take into consideration both the short-term solution along with long-term goals for a sustainable future."
Hormazd Sorabjee: "Europe began its emissions regime well but so did India, getting to BS VI in record time.India needs to focus on tech-agnostic solutions, practical time-frame & scrappage policy with context to emission targets and roadmap."
