Mahindra & Mahindra has started testing the GenZe electric scooter in Indian conditions. It could be either to prepare the Genze – which was conceived, developed and is sold in the USA – for India or work on a product derived out of the Genze for the domestic market.
An Autocar Professional reader snapped this GenZe 2.0 model being ridden on Pune roads. And what we learn is that it was doing 30-40kph with absolute ease.
With a removable lithium-ion battery that plugs in a standard electrical outlet (and which can be removed and swapped very easily), ample storage area and a connected app, the GenZe 2.0 e-scooter is pitched as a sustainable urban transportation solution in the US.
50kph top speed, 50km range on a single charge
Information on the GenZe website reveals that the GenZe 2.0 can reach a speed of 30mph/50kph and has a riding range of up to 30 miles / 50 kilometres per charge. Its travel range though is impacted by the weight of the rider, the type of terrain, and the speed in which the GenZe 2.0 is ridden. Push off is gradual in throttle mode to provide a smooth and steady ride experience.
The GenZe is a connected scooter and the GenZe app connects to the e-scooter via telematics. It is equipped with sensors to measure range, battery level and other parameters.
The GenZe app allows the rider to plan routes, run diagnostics, estimate travel range, and manage security, all from his/her smartphone.
The GenZe Cruise-Connect System monitors data through a cloud-based system and governs settings through the app. Riders are able to use their scooter’s connectivity to look at vital information like battery level and various riding statistics. It displays emissions and lets riders shift between more powerful and more eco-friendly modes.
The GenZe e-Scooter companion app allows the rider to run diagnostics on his/her ride. Should something come up during the scan, the app will give the error code to provide to a GenZe techie, so that the rider can get back on the road quickly.
Three models on sale in the US
Mahindra GenZe currently manufactures and retails three models in the US. The GenZe 2.0 (depicted below), which has a front storage area, adjustable seat and open back bay for modularity and connects with the GenZe app, is being sold for $2,999 (Rs 190,000).
Then there’s the GenZe 2.0s which has lower handlebars, a new front fascia, and a sporty look. It comes with enhanced app features, including the ability to track and disable the scooter remotely to protect it from theft, and three years of 3G telematics data included. It is priced at $3,699 (Rs 233,000)
The third model is the GenZe 2.0f targeted at city riders, couriers and commuters on the go (pictured on top being ridden in Pune). It has an electronically locking centre kickstand for added balance and security, and a hard locking storage compartment to keep goods safe between trips. This model costs $4,299 (Rs 271,000) in the US.
