Escorts Auto Products to increase shock absorber capacity

New Delhi, February 7, 2013: Escorts Auto Products, which is showcasing its entire shock absorber product portfolio at Hall 11, Booth J20 at the ongoing ACMA Automechanika New Delhi trade fair, has revealed plans to increase production capacity at its Rudrapur and Faridabad plants from the existing level of 4 million units per annum to 10 million units in three years. The estimated investment in expanding shock absorber and telescopic front fork capacity is around Rs 50 crore.

Speaking to Autocar Professional at Pragati Maidan, Lalit Kumar Pahwa, CEO, said that the company’s focus is now on value- added engineered auto components and aftermarket-driven products because of better margins, better leveraging of the brand and fewer restrictions from OEs. The company currently generates one-third of its business from the aftermarket, one-third from exports to Europe and the balance from OEs.

Escorts Auto Products, which is engaged in trading of some auto components, is now exploring plans to locally produce brakes, clutches and suspension parts like corner modules for better ride comfort over the next three years. It is targeting heavy commercial vehicles, high-end cars and premium motorcycles for these products.

To facilitate this, it is likely to set up a new facility and the expected location could be Chennai in the South or Pune in the West. The company’s Vision 2020 programme involves developing both new products and new technology in-house.
