The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine was today introduced in the Indian market at prices pegged at Rs 39.90 lakh for the A-Class 200 petrol, Rs 40.90 lakh for the 200d (diesel) and Rs 56.25 lakh for the AMG A 35 4Matic variant. All prices are ex-showroom, India and are introductory until June 30, 2021.
The entry-level Mercedes-Benz sedan has only been introduced in fully-equipped, top-of-the-line trims across all powertrain options. The car also gets a unique 8-year warranty for engine and transmission – a first for any carmaker to offer on a conventionally-powered vehicle in India.
The new A-Class Limousine gets a striking design, grabbing attention with its distinct elements such as the diving front end with a diamond-studded grille design, sporty side profile with 17-inch rims and a coupe-styled rear. The car gets a wheelbase of 2,729mm and 944mm of headroom at the back. The impressive styling aids the sedan to offer a drag coefficient of only 0.22.
On the inside, the A-Class Limousine gets a fully-digital 10-inch instrument cluster, as well as a 10-inch HD media display, Artico leather upholstery in beige along with an open-pore walnut trim running across the dashboard. In terms of connectivity, the car gets Mercedes’ new-gen NTG-6 telematics suite, along with Mercedes me connect app with OTA capabilities and MBUX Connect with ‘Hey Mercedes’ summon function.
Affordable AMG power
Unlike the 200 and 200d, the AMG variant of the A-Class Limousine gets an all-black interior theme with silver accents. The car gets a double-slat AMG grille that sets it apart from the regular variants, and it also gets sportier 18-inch rims.
While the ‘200’ petrol trim features a 1.3-litre turbocharged motor that belts out 160bhp and 250Nm of torque, sent to the wheels through a 7-speed DCT, the AMG A 35 4Matic comes powered by a 2.0-litre bi-turbo motor that develops 306bhp and 400Nm of peak torque. The AMG variant gets a 7-speed DCT christened Speedshift, and a 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine AMG A 35 4Matic is the 12th locally-manufactured model from Mercedes-Benz India, and it is also the second AMG to roll out from the assembly lines at the company’s flexible plant at Chakan, in Pune. Presently, Mercedes-Benz India assembles 12 CKD models across body styles, including sedans, SUVs, EVs and AMGs, under one roof.
In October last year, the company had announced its strategy to commence local assembly of the performance brand in an attempt to deepen its commitment towards the Indian customer. The first car to take this route was the AMG GLC 43 Coupe 4Matic, which had observed an up to 20 percent reduction in prices compared to a CBU counterpart, making AMG power more affordable for Indian customers.
According to Martin Schwenk, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “We are glad to introduce the highly anticipated A-Class Limousine to the Indian market. The A-Class Limousine imbibes all that is core to a Mercedes-Benz product and promises the new generation Indian customers. We are confident the A-Class Limo will set a new benchmark in the segment and attract a lot of new customers.”
