Delhi considering odd-even scheme every month

The Delhi government is seriously considering a proposal to enforce the odd-even scheme for 15 days every month, according to reports quoting Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The second phase of the 'odd-even' scheme in Delhi will start on April 15, and excludes women drivers and vehicles carrying students in uniform, Kejriwal added.

The odd-even formula will returns to the capital city for a second time for a duration of 15 days with the exemption for school children being the only change in the blueprint laid out by the state government when compared to the first phase of the scheme which ran in January.

The radical scheme will also continue to exempt two-wheelers, CNG, hybrid and electric vehicles as well as those of top politicians. However, the Delhi Chief Minister and his ministers would remain within the scheme’s ambit.

In addition, the government has launched a helpline for this phase, where motorists can get answers to their questions related to the scheme.

During the 15-day period, cars bearing registration numbers that end with an odd digit will be allowed to ply on odd-numbered dates while those ending with an even digit will be allowed to commute on even-numbered dates. The rule will be in force from 8am to 8pm on all days, except Sundays.

Moreover, motorists caught violating the policy will be fined a sum of Rs 2,000.
