Datsun has launched the Go+ MPV in India starting at Rs 3.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Go+ is the budget brand’s second model in India after the Go hatchback. In fact, the Go+ is essentially a stretched-out version of the hatchback.

What is interesting is that, although the Go+ is bigger than the hatchback, it is just under four metres in length. This makes the Datsun Go+ the first compact seven-seater in India. It is 3995mm in length, 1635mm in width, and 1490mm in height. Its wheelbase at 2450mm is the same as the Go hatchback as is the engine. The Go+ uses the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 67bhp and 10.61kgm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

In terms of exterior styling, the Go+ is simple and has the very same design as the Go, with an extension beyond the rear doors. The rear end, however, has been given some fresh styling. Inside the cabin, the story is similar and the same bare-minimum, functional look from the hatchback is carried over.

The Go+ has been made available in familiar trim levels – D, D1, A and T – all with a cut-cost feeling, but the top trims come with features like power steering and all power windows.

The Datsun Go+ is a budget MPV, and it shows. The fact that it is a sub-4-metre car helps it dodge taxation, which has allowed the carmaker to price it attractively. And at this pricing, the compact MPV doesn’t make you feel shortchanged.

The Go+ looks to provide competition in the already heated-up MPV segment, which has cars like the Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio, Nissan Evalia and the Chevrolet Enjoy.

Go+ D - Rs 3.79 lakh

Go+ D1 - Rs 3.82 lakh
