Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) along with Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, Japan (MFTBC), a Daimler Company, has begun exporting its robust DICV-made Fuso trucks to Indonesia, a key strategic market in Asia.

Daimler says the Fuso brand is the market leader in Indonesia with a share of 45.4 percent. In the light-duty truck segment (5-8 tons GVW) served by the Colt Diesel, the company has a market share of 53.1 percent in (January-December 2013). The company has sold over 280,000 units in Indonesia across light-medium and heavy duty segments.

The Fuso trucks, which are produced at DICV’s Oragadam plant, near Chennai, are also exported to Kenya, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, and Brunei. Mitsubishi Fuso products for Indonesia are distributed by PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors, in which MFTBC holds 18 percent shares.

With a view on the growth potential in Asia and Africa, Fuso is looking to add further markets to expand its global footprint. Daimler Trucks Asia expects to gain additional growth momentum in the future markets on top of the current existing markets from its new Asia Business Model introduced in 2013. The new business model creates synergies by bundling the strengths of the Japan-based MFTBC and DICV under the Daimler Trucks Asia umbrella.
