Exactly a month after it reduced the price of its Dominar 250 motorcycle tourer by 10% and Rs 16,800, to Rs 154,176 (ex-showroom Delhi), Bajaj Auto has today rolled out cosmetically enhanced versions, essentially with new colour options.
Since the Dominar 250’s launch in March 2020 at Rs 160,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the motorcycle saw a few more price increases which took the sticker to Rs 171,000. At its revised Rs 154,176, the Dominar slots between the Yamaha FZ25 (Rs 134,000) and the Suzuki Gixxer 250 (Rs 171,000). Compared to its bigger sibling, the Dominar 400, it costs nearly Rs 60,000 less.
The Dominar 250 was introduced by the company with a view to expand the buyer base of touring motorcycle aficionados at a lower price-point compared to the Dominar 400, and also to keep rivals at bay.
As per Autocar Professional’s data analytics, the Dominar 250 has in 17 months – from launch till end-June 2021 – sold a total of 11,369 units (see sales table below). Clearly, Bajaj Auto is looking to increase this model's sales traction.
On th export front, the company has till end-June 2021 shipped 11,084 Dominar 250s, achieving a near 50:50 ratio of domestic market and export sales.
With the pricing remaining unchanged, the Dominar 250 will now be available in new colour options of Racing Red + Matt Silver, Citrus Rush + Matt Silver and Sparkling Black + Matt Silver.
No change in specs
Everything else remains unchanged and the Dominar 250 continues to be powered by a liquid-cooled, 248.8cc DOHC FI engine, delivering 27 hp and 23.5 Nm of torque. It retains all the class-leading features of its Dominar 400 sibling like the upside-down (USD) forks for superior handling and comfort, and the twin barrel exhaust that produces a throaty exhaust note, enhancing the sports tourer feel. It also features bungee straps tucked under the seat to help secure gear during long-distance touring, a redesigned secondary display showing time and trip information, and spacecraft-inspired tank pad decals.
Commenting on the latest update to the Dominar 250, Narayan Sundararaman – Head of Marketing, Bajaj Auto, said: “We have recently achieved the historic milestone of 100,000 Dominars touring across the world, which reaffirms our mission of redefining long-distance touring. We believe that this Dual Tone Edition will attract young, dynamic and experience-seeking enthusiasts.”
The Dominar 250, which was launched in March 2020 with an aim to draw buyers from the growing segment of touring motorcycles in India, has till end-July 2021 sold a total of 11,369 units. Meanwhile, the Dominar 400, launched on December 13, 2016, has sold a total of 56,532 units till end-July 2021.
