Bajaj Auto confirms Autocar Pro’s analysis, expands market share to 45% in November from 39% in April-October 2021.

Bajaj Auto has confirmed Autocar Professional’s three-wheeler (goods carrier) sales analysis of November 27, wherein it was stated that Bajaj Auto has become the new leader of this sub-segment in the April-October 2021. The vehicle driving this growth is the Bajaj Maxima Cargo.
In the April-October 2021 period, Bajaj Auto sold 16,161 Maximas (up 26%) and clocked 26% YoY growth (April-October 2020: 12,767). In the process, Bajaj increased its market share to 39%, growing by four percentage points. In the process, it has topped erstwhile leader Piaggio.
Today, Bajaj Auto has issued a statement that affirms this news. The company says, “Bajaj Auto has acquired leadership position in the three-wheeler cargo segment with Maxima C reaching a 45% market share in Apr 21 - Nov 21 period. This has been achieved in 6 years from launch.” The company, however, has not released specific sales numbers for November 2021 or April-November 2021.
According to Bajaj Auto, this competitive gain has accelerated after it launched BS VI products while retaining their advantages of best-in-class reliability, power-packed performance and fuel efficiency. These product attributes have helped the Bajaj Maxima C gain traction in both urban and rural markets.
The market shift from diesel products to CNG, thanks to its lower operating costs, is also helping Bajaj. Key market developments like the boom in e-commerce and last-mile transportation due to a revival of economic activities in rural India have also helped growth in this market segment.
Commenting on the success of the Maxima Cargo, Samardeep Subandh, President, Intra-City Business, said, “Bajaj Maxima C’s unmatched product strengths of reliability, power and frugality coupled with Bajaj Auto’s strong financing strength, dealer network and manufacturing ability have ensured quick scale up of the proposition even during the tough pandemic time. First-time buyers across the country have also chosen the Maxima C because of the trust that the Bajaj name has established over the period.”
The Bajaj Maxima C is available in two fuel variants – CNG and diesel. The CNG variant’s engine develops 7.30 kW power at 4750rpm. The diesel variant is powered by a 470.5cc engine that generates 6.74 kw at 3400rpm and torque of 23.18 Nm at 2000rpm. The higher payload capacity of vehicle, along with sturdy power suspension and hydraulic shock absorbers, helps it to transport loads like LPG cylinders and building material over all types of terrain.
