Bajaj Auto had taken the wraps off its new V range of commuter motorcycles just ahead of the Auto Expo this month and now the Pune-based two-wheeler maker has silently launched the new range, starting with the V15 variant priced at Rs 62,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
With an interesting design which resembles a café-racer albeit with a hint of cruiser, the new V is Bajaj’s attempt to bringing a new flavour to the commuter space. The two-wheeler maker has taken many cracks at the segment and this family of motorcycles looks set to live alongside their successful and more simple-looking Discover range.
The bike, which uses metal of INS Vikrant (India’s first aircraft carrier) in its construction, is powered by an air-cooled DTS-i 150cc two-valve, four-stroke motor. This engine makes 11.8bhp of power. That puts the V about 2bhp down on power compared to its 150cc siblings in the Discover family.
The V also boasts of 1.3kgm of torque. Due to its two-valve head, it offers a solid 1.2kgm of torque from 3,000rpm, while peak torque is available at 5,500rpm. While this should also result in good fuel efficiency, the company hasn’t disclosed the ARAI test figures yet. Bajaj Auto claims a real world fuel economy figure of about 60kpl with pillion on board.
