The ninth Automotive Engineering Show (AES), organised by Messe Frankfurt and held in Chennai from July 7, saw over 100 companies participate.
The show’s exhibits and services focused on higher technology, innovation and flexibility needs of the automotive industry. Most exhibitors showcased the latest automotive manufacturing techniques and solutions aimed at meeting increasing costs and operational challenges.
Some of the companies at the event included Omron Automation, Siemens, Sick India, Bettinelli Automation Components, Blue Start, Cybernetik Technologies, Nordson EFD India, Faro, Mahr, Olympus, Panasonic and Bharat Fritz Werner.
Inaugurating the show on July 7, P Thangamani, minister for industries, Tamil Nadu, said, “Recognizing the importance of the automobile sector, the government has released the Tamil Nadu Automobile and Auto Components Policy 2014 which aims at developing the industry with generation of 500,000 jobs in the state’ he added. Also, in a bid to attract investment worth of Rs 100,000 crore, the state government is to hold a global investor meet in September this year.
Speaking to Autocar Professional, Raj Manek, executive director and board member of Messe Frankfurt Asia Holding, said, “Of the 106 companies this year, nearly 50 percent are international brands. This is 20 percent more than last year. We expect close to 3,500 business delegates to visit the the show over three days.”
“We are pleased with the response for the show and Chennai being a major automotive hub, it has potential. We are aiming at repositioning the show to try and capture everything under automotive engineering. In 2017, we plan to take this show alongside the Automechanika in New Delhi,” he added. He also said that tgh AES is likely to be expanded to global markets like Mexico and South Africa from 2016 onwards.
