Auto Expo 2014: Bajaj Auto reveals range-topping Pulsar SS400, CS400

At the Auto Expo today, Bajaj Auto unveiled two new range-topping versions of the famous Pulsar family – a naked version called the Pulsar CS400, and a faired version called the Pulsar SS400. Both versions are powered by a four-stroke, 375cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine, derived from the engine in the KTM 390 Duke, and managed by a six-speed gearbox.

While the Bajaj Pulsar CS400 gets inverted telescopic suspension up front, the SS400 gets telescopic suspension, with a rear monoshock employed by both. Both variants get a disc brake at the front and the rear along with ABS. Expect the sporty new Pulsar CS400 and SS400 to offer good value for money, in trademark Bajaj fashion, making for a stylish, affordable Indian sportsbike. Speaking to Autocar Professional, K Srinivas, president (Motorcycle Business), Bajaj Auto, confirmed that the Pulsar SS400 will be launched later this year.

In addition to the two Pulsar concepts, Bajaj Auto also revealed a 4-wheeled passenger vehicle concept called 'U-car', which it aims to position as an urban mobility solution. The U-car will be powered by a four-valve, liquid-cooled, triple-spark tech engine with fuel injection. It has automatic transmission and is front- wheel drive, while the Bajaj RE 60 is rear-wheel drive. The two-seater U-car has air-conditioning and small luggage space and will come with scissor doors. The  U-car will be more expensive than the Nano, says Joseph Abraham, R&D head, Bajaj Auto, adding that it is the four-wheeler equivalent of the Pulsar in terms of driveability and appeal.

According to Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, Bajaj Auto, all the concepts will make it to production.
