Ashoka Buildcon aims to spread road safety awareness with month long campaign
The month long campaign is scheduled from January 10 to February 9, 2016. The ‘Traffic Safety Month’ is organized to encourage road safety practices amongst the company employees as well as road users.
Ashoka Concessions, a subsidiary of Ashoka Buildcon (domestic BOT-based highway developer), had launched its road safety awareness campaign for 2016 on January 10. The month long campaign, scheduled from January 10 to February 9, 2016, is in full sway. The ‘Traffic Safety Month’ is organized to encourage road safety practices amongst the company employees as well as road users.
The activities are conducted in and around 20 road projects of Ashoka in West Bengal, Orissa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Maharashtra.
This year, the company is conducting safety related lectures at more than 200 schools. The campaign also includes multiple activities and working along-with local administrative bodies. The company has also donated alcohol breath analyzers and speed guns to the police department at various locations.
Further, Ashoka is conducting free eye check up camps for truck drivers apart from installing robotic flagmen to avoid accidents.
To reinforce the message of safety, the developer has put up safety message signs at toll plazas, hoardings and also doled out toll tickets with messages. Volunteers from staff members are expected to gently request commuters to drive safely. ‘Please wear your seatbelt’, ‘don’t drink and drive’, ‘Please respect speed limits’, ‘Please don’t talk on your cell phone while driving’, are some of the messages used during the campaign.
Ashish Katariya, managing director, Ashoka Concessions said, “Safety is a collective responsibility and we are trying to encourage commuters, workers and drivers to help us in reducing fatalities and accidents on highways. We are also conducting seminars at schools and colleges as they represent the future of our country. Their exposure to speeding and stunts, as glamourised in movies, needs to be countered with awareness regarding the dangers of ignoring traffic rules. Change will not come overnight, but continual efforts will definitely make a difference.”
