Ashok Leyland posts 16% sales growth in November 2015

Ashok Leyland, the second largest commercial vehicle makers in the country, has reported a 16% increase in its overall sales in November. It sold 8,971units in the month (November 2014: 7,732)

The Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) segment saw strong sales for the company, growing 21% to 6,297units (November 2014: 5,204 units).

While speaking to Autocar Professional in a recent interview, Vinod Dasari, managing director, Ashok Leyland, said, “I think the industry is performing well due to the base effect. The industry fell from 350,000 units to 200,000 units two years in a row by nearly 25 percent each year. This has never happened before and therefore we are at a very low base; last year the industry grew by 15 percent and this year it could be 20 percent or higher in some months.”

Commenting on the strong performance by Ashok Leyland, he said, “We have done several things over the last few years which are enhancing our network and making sure it is robust, and also by bringing in brand new products. This has helped the customer to become more profitable. Further, bringing in a contemporary sales process has helped us perform better than the industry.”

Meanwhile, the company’s LCV sales remained marginally up by 6 %. It sold 2,674 units in the month (November 2014: 2,528)

During April-November 2015, Ashok Leyland’s sales rose by 37 % with sales of 84,309 units (April-November 2014: 61,453 units). M&HCVs sales are up 47% with 64,180 units (April-November 2014: 44,184) while LCV numbers are up 13%, at 19,499 units (April-November 2014: 17,269 units).
