Ashok Leyland has bagged a contract from the ministry of tourism and hospitality industry of the government of Zimbabwe. Under the contract, the commercial vehicle manufacturer is to supply 670 vehicles, comprising trucks and buses, valued at approximately US$ 50 million (Rs 300 crore). The order is expected to be implemented in 2014-15. The company said this in a BSE filing.
In early March 2014, the company began exporting its MUV, the Stile to Africa. The Stile, a product from the Ashok Leyland joint venture, was launched in India last October.
Meanwhile, Ashok Leyland reported a 27 percent decline in its total sales in March 2014 at 10,286 units (March 2013: 14,019 units). Sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles last month declined by 20 percent to 7,723 units (March 2013: 9,694).
