The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC), the first sector skill council set up by the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) held its 32nd Governing Council meeting today. The members came together to review the recent developments in the industry, basis which further plans were announced to adopt measures to boost skilling in the automotive sector.
The event was attended by members of the automotive industry, the governing council deliberated on the status updates on the developments proposed in the previous GC meeting held on July 27, 2019.
The members contemplated the feasibility of proposals such as the need to develop Affiliated Training Centre Model amongst ACMA members, concluding that 4 modes of association are possible under current formats.
The members also agreed upon work-based learning scheme as per guidelines of Apprenticeship Act to provide industry-led centres for vocational skills training. It was also decided that ASDC will empanel ACT counsellors as accessors when TCS starts assessments for manufacturing domain. The council also considered the certification of trainers and accessors, and the role of industry in formulation of expert groups for curriculum and content curation for training purposes. Along similar lines, placements through NSDC and ASDC Rozgar Melas were also discussed. The council meeting concluded with discussion on preparation for IndiaSkills and WorldSkills at Shanghai 2021.
Nikunj Sanghi, chairman, ASDC said, “ASDC has been dedicatedly building a comprehensive skilling ecosystem in the automotive sector. With the changing narrative around the auto industry as the conversations around electric vehicle and smart mobility gain momentum, the necessity to impart and upgrade the existing skills and knowledge has increased significantly. We need to provide avenues for providing specialised trainings, apprenticeship opportunities and ease of access to facilities to ready the workforce for the Industry 4.0 revolution. It is essential for all stakeholders align their approach in a strategic and integrated manner for boosting skill development in the automotive sector.”
After the meeting ASDC felicitated the WorldSkills participants and experts under the categories of Automobile Technology, Autobody Repair and Car painting.
