The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) and Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters, have partnered to bridge the digital skills gap in the country’s auto dealerships.

As per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between ASDC and Hero MotoCorp, this partnership aims to do Dealership Staff Training with Hero MotoCorp in an Apprenticeship Model.

It will also enhance ASDC’s capacity and capabilities in providing a variety of learning modules and certifications for automotive servicing and curriculum building along with faculty training to meet global standards. Hero MotoCorp will provide the content of the digital learning program.

Commenting on the initiative, Nikunj Sanghi, President of ASDC said, “We are extremely happy to partner with Hero MotoCorp, as it will allow us to reach a large number of youth, who can be skilled and subsequently gainfully employed in the industry. It is also important that the younger generation in the country put in their hearts to the jobs that they are performing in addition to their hands and minds. This alone will bring in the sense of pride in what they are doing, leading to high quality performance which is critical in leading the country to a leadership position in the world of manufacturing”.

Naveen Chauhan, Head of Sales and After Sales, Hero MotoCorp said, “Through this strategic partnership, we will work with ASDC to upskill and reskill the workforce in the automotive industry. The industry has witnessed the advent of new technologies in the recent past and this trend will continue in the future as well. As the automotive industry is a large employer, there will be an increased demand of skilled manpower in the industry. To meet this demand, the gap between the skills available and skill required will have to be bridged. We are happy to make a contribution in this process and empower the youth of the country.”

Both ASDC and Hero MotoCorp will focus on bridging the supply gap of skilled workers in the automotive industry and help in the fulfilment of manpower requirement across the country. The program will further enable all the candidates to develop relevant skills on futuristic vehicles too (EV/HEV) and become self-reliant, thereby, empowering the youth for a brighter future and at the same time fulfilling the broader vision of Skill India.

ASDC is an industry-led initiative promoted by ACMA, SIAM and FADA jointly with NSDC and the  government of India to enhance the skill of the automotive industry to compete with international standards.
