Apollo Tyres, which notched a handsome 155% year-on-year profit in Q3 FY2021 as a result of robust domestic and overseas market sales, has launched a new range of tyres for the Indian market. Called Amazer XP, the low rolling resistance tyres, available in seven sizes ranging from 12- to 14 inches, are targeted at the entry-level passenger vehicle market, specifically hatchbacks and sedans.
According to the company, the new Amazer XP tyre has been developed using a compound that imparts ‘best-in-class’ rolling resistance and in turn improves fuel efficiency. The specific pattern of the stripes and groove design is also claimed to reduce road noise and aid comfort.
Apollo states that Amazer XP has “gained OE (original equipment) approval” for the Tata Tigor EV, Renault Kwid, Hyundai Grand i10 and the Datsun Go and Go+. Fourteen other models can be shod with the new XP (as under):
145/80 R12 – Maruti Suzuki Alto
155/65 R14 – Previous-gen Maruti WagonR
165/70 R14 – Renault Kwid, Datsun Go and Go+, Nissan Micra
165/80 R14 – Maruti Swift, Tata Altroz
175/65 R14 – Honda Amaze, Tata Bolt and Zest, Toyota Etios
185/65 R14 – Old Hyundai i20
185/70 R14 – Mahindra Verito
Amazer XP tyres have only been launched in the aforementioned seven sizes, with five more set to join the range in the future. Apollo is yet to officially state the prices of its new product.
Targeting the mass market
With the Amazer XP, Apollo is targeting the mass-market segment which registers monthly volumes of approximately 200,000 tyres a month. Designed with inputs from the company’s R&D centres in Chennai and Enschede, Netherlands, the XP is manufactured at Apollo’s plants in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu and Limda, Gujarat.
According to Satish Sharma, President, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa (APMEA), Apollo Tyres, “The Apollo Amazer XP tyres are the new-age fuel efficient tyres for the electric age, which is BS VI ready. of OE fitment approvals that we have received within a short span of time for these tyres, is a testimony to the superb performance one can expect from these tyres. We are already looking at dominating the passenger EV space in India with these tyres.”
