In line with its aim to grow business with Taiwan, the Auto Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) , recently organised a 10-member CEO delegation to Taiwan from July 20-23. The delegation was led by Vinnie Mehta, director-general, ACMA, and comprised of CEOs from leading auto component manufacturers. The companies represented included Shriram Pistons, Global Autotech, Sandhar Technologies, Minda Industries, Minda Corp, Essae Digitronics and Raunaq Automotive Components among others.
In Taiwan, the delegation visited several manufacturers, research institutions and industry bodies engaged in auto components, especially auto electronics which is a sector where India is found lacking.
The delegates interacted with Taiwanese companies to explore their interest in partnering with Indian auto component manufacturers and investing in auto-electronics manufacturing in India. The delegation visited companies like Lorom Industrial, TECO, Lioho, TungThih, Porite, Mobiletron as well as organisations engaged in research and technical services such as Hsinchu Science Park, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and Automotive Research & Testing Centre.
Furthermore, ACMA along with the India-Taipei Association organised the ‘India – Taiwan Auto Industry Meet 2015: Make in India – Auto Parts/ Auto Electronics’ on July 23. The seminar was well attended by over 100 participants from the auto and electronics industry and government. The seminar was supported by the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce, Government of India; Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA); Taiwan Telematics Industry Association (TTIA); Taiwan Transportation Vehicle Manufacturers Association (TTVMA) and the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA).
Commenting on the visit, ACMA’s Vinnie Mehta said, “With the government of India mandating stringent norms for safety and emissions, as also with the growing electronics content in the vehicles for entertainment and performance management, it is imperative that the Indian auto component industry focuses attention on the auto-electronics vertical. Taiwanese manufacturers are world leaders in electronics manufacturing and have a positive outlook towards India. Some of the auto electronics manufacturers from Taiwan have already set up their facilities in India. We hope that this visit will help galvanise investments in electronics manufacturing, a segment that India lags in.”
