The 2016 Volkswagen Touran MPV has been revealed ahead of its public debut at the Geneva motor show.

The new model, based on VW's MQB platform, will slot into the range between the new, smaller, Golf SV and the full-size seven-seat Sharan MPV.
The Touran's looks have been brought into line with other recent Volkswagens such as the new Passat and the Golf SV. The interior is also completely new, adopting a more premium feel while maximising the available interior space.
It is not just a case of maximising existing space, though, because the new Touran is around 12cm longer than the car it replaces, while the wheelbase has been stretched by 11cm.
The cabin comes with a completely new folding seat arrangement, which allows the seats to be dropped to create a flat floor. The new model is available in both five- and seven-seat versions, and Volkswagen claims the former has the biggest luggage compartment in the class.
The new model also has a huge list of safety equipment available. Various active systems are offered, including an automatic post-collision braking assistant as standard, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and pre-crash proactive occupant protection.
As with other 2016 models from the VW stable, there are significant upgrades to the infotainment set-up. It will be offered with full integration with both Apple and Android smartphones, allowing advanced phone functionality, such as voice control, to be used.
The UK engine range will consist of two petrol and three diesel models, all of which are claimed to be significantly more economical than the models they replace. This comes as a result of weight reduction, improved aerodynamics as well as mechanical improvements.
The entry-level engine option is the 1.2-litre TSI turbo petrol unit, which is joined by more powerful 148bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrols. The three diesel options are rated at 108bhp for the 1.6 TDI, with 148bhp and 187bhp 2.0-litre diesel models. The 1.6-litre diesel is the most economical in the line up, with an official fuel economy figure of 70.6mpg. The most economical petrol is the 1.4-litre, which manages 52.3mpg when paired with the optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The 187bhp diesel model gets an automatic gearbox, which is optional on all other engine variants apart from the 1.2-litre TSI petrol.
The new Touran will be available to order in summer 2015 with the first UK deliveries in November 2015.
