The ID 7 is due to go on sale later in 2023, with a full reveal expected before the summer.
The electric sedan could be offered with a 435-mile / 700km range.
It will initially be sold with two-wheel drive, with a four-wheel-drive GTX edition to follow.
The ID 7 is due to sit alongside the D-segment Passat and Arteon sedans.
The ID 7 will be built at the firm’s Emden factory in Germany alongside the Volkswagen ID 4, and exported to all markets except China from there.
Chinese ID 7s will be built locally by VW’s two different joint venture partners there.
The infotainment system has been overhauled to bring temperature controls to the main homepage of the 15-inch touchscreen.
