Volkswagen Group sells 506,500 BEVs globally in January-September 2024

Though BEV sales were down 4.7% YoY, their share of 8% of total VW Group vehicle sales at the end of September is at the previous year's level; BEV order bank in Western Europe stands at around 170,000 vehicles, and deliveries of new models such as the VW ID.7 Tourer, Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan Electric are expected to drive up sales in Q4 CY2024.

Volkswagen Group sells 506,500 BEVs globally in January-September 2024

The Volkswagen Group has sold 6.52 million vehicles (6,524,300 units) worldwide after three quarters of CY2024, down 2.8% on the previous year (January-September 2023: 6.72 million vehicles). Of this total, sale of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) comprised 506,500 units, down 4.7% in the previous year-ago period (531,500 vehicles) and contributed 7.76% to global VW Group sales in the first nine months of this year.

The BEV share of around 8% at the end of September is at the previous year's level, with significantly more BEVs delivered in China (148,100 units, +27%) but declining development in the USA (37,100 units, -26%). Nevertheless, the Volkswagen Group remains the BEV market leader in Europe, despite lower deliveries of 293,300 units, down 14% YoY (market share of around 19%). While Europe accounted for 58% of the Bev sales, China’s share was 29%, USA 7% and the rest of the world 5.54 percent.

The Volkswagen Group’s BEV order bank in Western Europe stands at around 170,000 vehicles, and deliveries of new models such as the VW ID.7 Tourer, Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan Electric should provide a further tailwind in Q4 CY2024.

The automaker’s best-selling BEVs in the January-September 2024 period were:
Volkswagen ID.4/ID.5: 135,200 units
Volkswagen ID.3: 105,900 units
Audi Q4 e-tron (incl. Sportback): 78,800 units
Škoda Enyaq (incl. Coupé): 50,800 units
CUPRA Born: 29,600 units
Audi Q8 e-tron (incl. Sportback): 23,900 units
Volkswagen ID.7 (incl. Tourer): 22,200 units
Volkswagen ID. Buzz (incl. Cargo): 20,000 units

The Wolfsburg- Germany-headquartered Volkswagen Group operates globally, with 114 production facilities in 19 European countries and 10 countries in the Americas, Asia and Africa. With around 684,000 employees worldwide. The Group’s vehicles are sold in over 150 countries and in 2023, it sold a total of 9.2 million worldwide (2022: 8.3 million). Group sales revenue in 2023 totalled 322.3 billion euros (2022: 279.1 billion euros).
