Premium electric carmaker, Tesla Motors announced a new software update that allows the cars to park themselves in the garage.
The software, Tesla version 7.1, expands Autopilot functionality and introduces the first iteration of ‘Summon’ for Model S and Model X. Using Summon, users can prompt their cars to: open the garage door, enter the garage, park itself, and shut down. Similarly, the car can be summoned from the garage.
Broadly, Summon also eliminates the burden of having to squeeze in and out of tight parking spots.
“Eventually, your Tesla will be able to drive anywhere across the country to meet you, charging itself along the way. It will synch with your calendar to know exactly when to arrive,” said Tesla in a press release.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors said in a series of tweets today, “First baby step in Tesla Summon capability now downloading over-the-air with V7.1. Tap your phone or key and your car will open the garage door, exit, close the door and come to you. Will do same in reverse for unsummon. In approximately two years, Summon should work anywhere connected by land and not blocked by borders, e.g. you are in Los Angeles and your car is in New York.”
