As per the compiled data, the world’s 500 largest companies generated $27.7 trillion (Rs 1,749.80 trillion) in revenues and $1.5 trillion (Rs 94,755 billion) in profits in 2016. Together, this year’s Fortune Global 500 companies employed 67 million people globally and were represented by 34 countries, according to Fortune magazine.
US-based cash-and-carry retailer, Walmart topped the list with $485,873 million (Rs 30.69 trillion) in revenue. The 25 automakers are led by Toyota Motor Corporation at No. 5 in the list, followed by Volkswagen. In the Top 20 are Daimler at No. 17, and GM at No. 18 while Ford comes in at No. 21 and Honda at No. 29. China’s SAIC Motor, which has announced manufacturing plans for India, is at No. 41 while Nissan comes in at No. 44. BMW Group drives in at No. 52, Hyundai Motor takes No. 78, Renault is at No. 157 and Kia Motors at No. 209. Contract manufacturer Magna International is at No. 290, indicative of the considerable work it does for automakers globally. Suzuki Motor wraps up the list of global automakers at No. 373.
Automotive component suppliers enter the list at No. 76 in the form of Robert Bosch Gmbh, followed by Continental (No. 213), Denso (No. 236), ZF (No. 263) and Aisin Seiki (No. 324).
Oil and gas majors comprise 19 of the total 54 companies in the this automotive and allied industries list. Chinese oil majors Sinopec Group and China National Petroleum are ranked third and fourth respectively. India’s largest oil corporation, Indian Oil is ranked No. 168 with revenues of $53,562 million (Rs 338,351 crore), Bharat Petroleum at No. 360 with $30,316 million (Rs 191,506 crore) and Hindustan Petroleum at No. 384 with revenues of $28,166 million (Rs 177,924 crore).
