Tata Motors has taken the wraps off its all-new Altroz premium hatchback at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The new Tata Altroz will be available with conventional powertrains as well as an electric one, albeit at a later stage.
The Tata Altroz is the brand’s second model to feature the brand’s Impact Design 2.0 styling language, with the first model to feature it being the Harrier SUV, which is already on sale in India.
The new Tata Altroz features a striking exterior design replete with a slimmer version of Tata’s ‘Humanity Line’ grille upfront. The car gets large headlamps mounted above the front bumpers, similar to the ones seen on the Harrier.
Moving to the side, it features an upswept window line with strong character lines running across the car’s length, along with pillar-mounted door handles for the rear doors. The Altroz is based on Tata’s ALFA architecture, which is a versatile platform capable of accommodating multiple body styles and powertrains including petrol and diesel engines and even electric motors and batteries.
The Tata Altroz is the production version of the stylish 45X concept that made its public debut at Auto Expo 2018 in New Delhi. The model has been aggressively tested nationwide, having been spotted undergoing road-testing at a number of locations including the Kari Motor Speedway.
Under the hood, the Tata Altroz is expected to have three engine options – the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine from the Tiago hatchback and the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel from the Nexon compact SUV and the .
Tata Motors has also unveiled the Altroz EV at the 89th Geneva Motor Show. Along with the electric powertrain, the all-electric model, which is based on the conventionally powered hatchback features mild styling tweaks.
