Suzuki Motor Show, which is to showcase a number of new cars including the next-generation Swift, at the Tokyo Motor Show (October 26-November 5), will also display the electric and hydrogen-powered avatars of its Burgman scooter.
The e-Burgman electric scooter prototype, as per the company, is a 125cc- equivalent electric scooter with which it has started a demonstration project from April 2023, utilising the swappable battery sharing service provided by Gachaco. According to Suzuki, “Through this demonstration project, we will collect data of motorcycles used as daily transportation such as commuting and shopping, and utilise it for future development of electric motorcycles.”
Suzuki, which has been testing the Burgman electric scooter in India, had revealed the e-Burgman earlier this year and also revealed most of its technical specifications.
The e-Burgman, which features a swappable lithium-ion battery pack, is claimed to have a range of "44km when ridden at a steady 60kph on a flat surface." However, expect this figure to increase for the production model. The e -Burgman has a claimed peak power of 4kW, which is in the same region as the TVS iQube S and Bajaj Chetak. At 780mm, the e-Burgman’s height is the same as the two petrol-engined Burgman scooters currently on sale in India. Will Suzuki launch the e-Burgman in India? We’ll have to wait for an announcement on that front.
HYDROGEN BURGMAN CONCEPT
Suzuki, which is conducting research and development of hydrogen engines as one of the multi-pathway initiatives for realizing carbon neutrality, will also use the platform of the Tokyo Motor Show to display the hydrogen-powered version of the Burgman.
A cutaway of the test model based on the commercially available Burgman 400 ABS fitted with a 70MPa hydrogen tank and hydrogen engine will be displayed.
