Seoul Semiconductor, a global optical semiconductor company, has begun supplying and mass-producing the world's first wire-free optical semiconductor 'WICOP' technology for the headlamp of the GV80 SUV of Hyundai Motor Group's luxury brand Genesis Group. The GV80 uses Wicop technology to realize all the functions of the high-brightness, sophisticatedly designed headlamps.
In particular, the two rows of high beam and low beam, which are the symbol of the GV80, are equipped with high-brightness products from Seoul Semiconductor's new technology 'WICOP UHL'. 'WICOP UHL' is attracting attention from the automotive market as a solution optimized for slim lamp design by improving brightness by 200% compared to the existing mass-produced YCOP products.
In addition, all front light functions of the GV80, such as daytime running lights (DRLs) and turn signals, have been applied to Wicop. In this way, the technology has been supplied to all the functions of one car headlamp.
WICOP UHL, which is applied to Genesis MLA (Mirco Lens Array) headlamps, is optimised for automotive applications based on YCOP, an ultra-compact and high-efficiency LED technology.
Compared to conventional products, the heat dissipation performance is 40% better, which can reduce the heat dissipation structure of the headlamp by up to 75%. As a result, it is possible to reduce the size and weight, which are important elements of lamp design, and to realise a slim and sophisticated design.
Genesis said that it was able to improve the perfection of the new front part of the Genesis GV80 by adopting Seoul Semiconductor's technology, and in particular, WICOP UHL contributed to the improvement of visual quality by combining MLA technology with a large light emission area of 0.5mm2, and it is expected to be applied to more models in the future.
