Renault Chief Luca De Meo stated two days ago, that the Euro 7 emission rules would deviate the automotive sector from its electrification path, Reuters reported. The newswire further stated that Meo offered his thanks to Italy, for opposing them.
Luca De Meo, who also serves as President of the ACEA (the European Automobile Manufacturers Association) said that the new rules would "distract the sector from their mission to transform the industry", Reuters added.

Earlier in the month, Italy's Transport Minister Matteo Salvini said Italy and allies in the EU "have the numbers" to stall the Euro 7 regulation, the newswire stated.
EU countries are set to come up with new Euro 7 rules that further constrict emission limits for polluting elements and are slated to be applicable to cars besides vans from 2025, with trucks to follow suit by 2027, Reuters stated.
Besides this, the European Commission has put a 2035 cutoff date for doing away with the manufacture of fossil fuel cars, though it made an exception for those running on e-fuels, recently, Reuters reported.
