Pininfarina previews PF0 electric hypercar
Design house-cum-manufacturer will show a concept of its next model during Monterey Car Week in August.
Automobili Pininfarina has shown a glimpse of its next project, which will be revealed in concept form during Monterey Car Week later in the summer.
Named PF0, the concept will follow Pininfarina’s blueprint of ultra-luxury hypercars, produced in small numbers. Pininfarina aims for the car to have a top speed of over 250mph (400kph), a range of over 300 miles (400 km) and acceleration to 62mph (100kph) from a standstill in less than two seconds. It'll be fully road legal, despite being so extreme.
It'll be one of a range of premium, high-performance EVs, although it’s not yet known if any will seat more than two people.
The car’s powertrain will have technical input from Pininfarina owner Mahindra’s Formula E team, under the watch of newly appointed CEO Michael Perschke. The rest of the new car maker's board have been plucked from across the industry, including from Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo, Bugatti and McLaren.
Mahindra group chairman Anand Mahindra previously confirmed to Autocar UK that Automobili Pininfarina's hypercar will draw “upon the pedigree and design vocabulary of the Pininfarina aesthetic heritage" to "develop a rare collector’s item that only a handful of connoisseurs will ever own".
It will "be an innovative and pioneering product powered by high technology", he said, that will combine "power, beauty and high-end EV technology”.
Power is likely to match that of the Bugatti Chiron, although the car’s bespoke nature means it will be more of an answer to the recently announced Bugatti Divo - a coach-built, track-focused limited-run hypercar based on the Chiron’s tub and engine.
