Nissan has announced that it has delivered 110 units of its popular EV offering, the Nissan Leaf to Sibeg's sales representatives as part of the second phase of Green Mobility project. The project aims to accelerate EV ecosystem in Sicily, Italy. Additionally, Sibeg has also expanded its charging network by adding eight new fast chargers in the city.
Nissan and Sibeg, the bottler of products from the Coca-Cola company in the Sicilian market, have formed an agreement to create an electric ecosystem consisting of vehicles and infrastructures. For Nissan, the new ecosystem is an application of Nissan's 'Intelligent Mobility', the company's strategy to change how cars are driven, powered and integrated into society.
Sibeg has partnered with ALD Automotive to provide all the administrative and management services for the cars through its E-go long-term rental proposal. Due to Sibeg’s strategic partnership with Enel X, the major long-term rental company offers integrated mobility services for promoting zero-emission mobility.
Sibeg claims that it currently has a total of 68 charging stations in Sicily, with 60 coming from its partnership with Enel. Out of this 60, seven of them come with fast charging facility.
As per reports, in 2017, there was a 135 percent rise in EV use in Sicily, the credit for which has been shared with the improvements in the recharging network. In 2015, the first phase of the ‘Green Mobility Project’ was initiated, which saw only three charging stations installed in Sicily.
The new Nissan Leaf EV replace previous ones already assigned to the field force of Sibeg back in 2015 during the first phase of the 'Green Mobility Project.' Nissan claims that this initial stage made Sibeg the first company in Europe to equip itself with full-electric zero-emission vehicles, as well as four electric scooters used for activities on smaller islands.
Nissan has stated that the ‘Green Mobility Project’ will prevent the emission of 363 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, equivalent to the quantity absorbed by 27,225 trees in one year.
