Automobili Lamborghini, the Italian luxury sports cars and SUV manufacturer that is owned by the Volkswagen Group through its subsidiary Audi recorded its highest annual sales figures for 2018. It is said to be recording consistent sales growth for eight consecutive years.
Through 157 dealers across 50 countries, the luxury carmaker delivered 5,750 vehicles in 2018 which is an increase of 51 percent (3,815 in 2017). Of the 5,750 units, 2,497 (gain of 69%) were delivered to EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa), 1,952 units were delivered to Americas (gain of 46%) and 1,301 units to Asia Pacific (gain of 30%). Out of the 1,952 units in the Americas, the US alone got 1,595 units, making it the single largest market for Lamborghini followed by the UK with 636 units, Japan with 559 units, Germany with 463 units and China with 342 units. The company claims that All these markets increased deliveries substantially and marked national historic sales levels.
According to reports, the biggest contributor to Lamborghini’s growth in 2018 was the robust sales of V12 Lamborghini Aventador which grew by 3 percent from 1,173 to 1,209 units. Its V10 Lamborghini Huracan grew by 5 percent from 2,642 to 2,780 units. The Super SUV Urus, which was launched in July 2018 was delivered to 1,761 customers by the end of the year.
Hormazd Sorabjee, editor of Autocar India tweeted, "Lamborghini sold over 40 cars in India last year and half of them were Urus’ Has aggressive plans to increase lead over arch-rival Ferrari."
2018: 5,750 units and 3 launches
The year started with the display of the concept Lamborghini Terzo Millennio at the Festival Automobile International in Paris in January 2018. At the Geneva Motor Show in March Lamborghini presented the Lamborghini Huracán Performante Spyder. In August Lamborghini unveiled the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ in a worldwide premiere during Monterey Car Week in California. Also in 2018, Lamborghini presented the one-off Lamborghini SC18 Alston. The one-off V12 model was developed by Lamborghini Squadra Corse in conjunction with the customer, with aerodynamics derived from experience in Lamborghini Super Trofeo and GT3 racing. Finally, the year saw Lamborghini’s first SUV, the Urus.
With continuing growth expected in the large economies around the world and due to its young and attractive product portfolio as well as the first full year of Urus deliveries, Lamborghini expects further growth in new dimensions of both unit sales and turnover in the medium term.
