Kia Motors India contributes 8.33% to company's global sales in February
Surging demand in India and highest monthly sales of 15,664 units sees Kia India contribute handsomely to global sales of 187,844 units last month. Made-in-India Seltos accounts for 56% of global Seltos sales.
Kia Motors India, which is firing on all cylinders right from the launch of its Seltos SUV in August 2019, continues to be a strong provider to the Korean carmaker’s global sales. In February, with sales of 15,664 units – its highest sales in seven months in the Indian market – the company has contributed 8.33 percent to Kia Motors Corporation’s global sales of 187,844 units. The actual contribution should be more because this figure comprises Kia’s passenger cars, recreational vehicles (RVs) and commercial vehicles all together. The specific segment-wise split is not available. In fact, Kia Motors India has crossed the 75,000-unit sales mark in just 7 months.
Kia Motors Corp's global sales of 187,844 units in February 2020 represents a five percent decrease from February 2019. Compared to a year ago, sales in the home market of Korea dropped by 13.7 percent from 33,222 units to 28,681 units; sales outside Korea decreased by 3.2 percent from 164,434 units to 159,163 units. The company says, “The reduced sales in both the Korean and overseas markets are largely attributable to the contracting consumer spending caused by COVID-19 outbreak in Korea and China.”
Globally, the Sportage SUV was at the top of Kia’s sales with 25,555 units sold, followed by the Seltos with 25,129 units and the Rio (Pride) subcompact sedan with 19,428 units. Considering that the Seltos sold 14,024 units in India last month, it accounts for 56% of total Seltos sales in February 2020.
Kia says its recently launched models such as the K7 full-size sedan, Seltos, Telluride midsize SUV and Mohave SUV continue to rack up record sales around the globe.
