The Bosch Group, the multi-product, well-diversified technology and service major, has awarded the Bosch Global Supplier Award to 44 suppliers from 11 countries. The awards, the 15th in the series, recognise excellence in the production and delivery of products or services, especially in the areas of quality, costs, innovations and logistics. This year's theme was ‘Partners in Success’.
This year, the company awarded prizes in six categories – innovation, raw materials and components, electronics and electromechanics, mechanics, commercial goods and indirect purchasing.
Three of the winning companies are among the winners for the eighth time. More than half of the award-winning companies are based outside Germany, just under a third of which are located in Asia. Dr. Karl Nowak, chairman of the Bosch Management Board of the Central Purchasing and Logistics Division, said: "Bosch's success is based on competitiveness, innovation and agility, which can only be achieved with successful international partnerships."
Dr Volkmar Denner, chairman of the Bosch Management Board, emphasised the importance of an increasingly networked collaboration between Bosch and its suppliers: "In the networked world, partnerships are becoming increasingly important. Value-added networks are created from hierarchical value-added chains. With our open platform technologies, we can make the most of the opportunities offered by digitization in our partner networks, for example, for the data exchange at Industry 4.0 through the Production Performance Management Protocol. "
“Our goal is to achieve supply chain excellence. For this, we adhere to the highest quality standards. In future, we will have to react even more flexibly and quickly to market and customer requirements. This only works if all partners are networked intelligently and work closely together with the help of automated processes, "said Prof. Dr. Stefan Asenkerschbaumer, deputy chairman of the Board of Management of Bosch and responsible for Purchasing and Logistics. For the forthcoming change, Bosch continues to invest heavily in new technologies and markets, pushing forward innovative purchasing and logistics strategies and continuing to train its employees accordingly.
Nash Industries makes an impact
The Bangalore-based Nash Industries is the sole Indian supplier among the 44 winning companies. Set up in 1971, the Nash Group is a manufacturing solutions provider with capabilities of design, precision sheet metal stamping, fabrication and assemblies. Its automotive portfolio includes window regulators, audio casing assembly, ECU covers, hydraulic steereing column, rails, airbag frames, seatbelt assembly, seating system and struts and shock absorbers.
Growing importance of software expertise for suppliers
As an innovator, Bosch says it is shaping the change in the Internet of Things and actively pushing it forward. "By 2020, all new electronic Bosch products will be networkable. This means that our software requirements are constantly increasing. By 2023, we will triple our purchasing volume for software to more than three billion euros," said Denner.
According to the Bosch CEO, it is also becoming increasingly important for the company's suppliers to develop their organisations with the Internet of Things. Above all, competences must be built up in the software field. In the exchange of ideas and knowledge between companies, Denner sees an important success factor: "We must work together to expand our existing business in the area of networked products and in industry 4.0.”
The Bosch Group's purchasing and logistics volume currently accounts for about 60 percent of total sales. Above all, electronic and mechanical components are purchased. The shopping spectrum also includes merchandise, software, services, capital goods and equipment.
