Honda Motor Company is witnessing a positive year, with production at its worldwide manufacturing operations registering an uptick and reaching over 2.5 million units in the first half of the current fiscal.
The automobile car business recorded its best-ever global production numbers in the month of September 2017 with 455,263 units (+1.3% YoY) getting built, with operations in Asia (207,678 units) and China (136,518 units) regions also seeing their highest-ever numbers for a given month, posting growth of 15.3 percent and 18.8 percent respectively.
September 2017 production also gave a boost to the overall production at Honda’s 30 manufacturing facilities spread across the world, which cumulatively produced 2,556,999 units (+4.3%) between April-September 2017 (H1 FY2018).
Exports and production at its home turf, however, slumped for the month of September 2017, with 70,094 units being produced, a 6.8 percent YoY decline; albeit seeing a rise on the other hand, with 382,378 cars being manufactured in the first six months of H1 FY2018 ended September.
India a prime contributor to growth
India, being a prime Asian market for the Japanese giant, which plans to introduce six new models in the country over the next three years, contributed 3.28 percent to global production with 84,056 units produced in H1 of FY2018 at its two car manufacturing plants, located in Greater Noida and Tapukara industrial belts of northern India.
Honda Cars India is on a surge in this fiscal, since the introduction of its WR-V crossover in March 2017. The Jazz-based crossover and the facelift of the City sedan, launched in February 2017, have together changed the company’s shrinking fortunes. The company clocked domestic sales of 91,239 units between April-September 2017, which marks 22 percent growth, backed by strong demand coming in for these two popular models. Its exports in H1 of FY2018 have also seen positive growth of 8 percent, with 2,724 units being exported to Mexico and South Africa.
