The all-new Honda CR-V has been awarded a 5-star rating in a crash test conducted by the ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asia).
With this, the new Honda CR-V, manufactured by Asian Honda Motor Co, has become the first model to be awarded a 5-star rating under the new ASEAN NCAP Assessment 2017-2020 Protocol.
Based on the new ASEAN NCAP Assessment 2017-2020 Protocol, which came into effect on January 1, 2017, the new Honda CR-V achieved a 5-star rating with an overall score of 88.8 out of 100. This new assessment included a frontal offset impact test, side impact test, and evaluation of safety features. The all-new Honda CR-V received scores of 47.25 for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 22.84 for Child Occupant Protection (COP), and 18.71 for and Safety Assist Technologies (SATs).
The fifth-generation Honda CR-V made its debut in Southeast Asia in March 2017 in Thailand, followed by Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Within four months after its launch in Thailand, the SUV has recorded over 6,500 bookings (as of July 2017). In Malaysia, it achieved four months’ sales target in just one month after its official launch in mid-July.
The vehicle comes with Honda’s advanced driving assisting system called Honda SENSING. It consists of a millimetre-wave radar and monocular camera mounted on the upper, inside part of the windshield. Honda SENSING provides greater awareness of driving conditions around the vehicle, provides warnings to the driver and supports the driver in avoiding or mitigating the severity of a collision.
The new CR-V is also equipped with Honda LaneWatch, the company’s system that displays the view behind the vehicle using a camera built into the passenger-side mirror. Both technologies were introduced to be assessed under the new protocol and received points in the Safety Assist (SA) category.
Along with a standard body structure featuring Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) and G-Force Control (G-CON) technology, the all-new Honda CR-V offers a full range of active and passive safety features. These include six airbags – Dual SRS airbags, i-Side airbags, and side curtain airbags; Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA); Hill Start Assist (HSA); Emergency Stop Signal (ESS); and Multi-angle Rearview Camera.
Fifth-gen CR-V is India-bound
The fifth-generation CR-V is also slated to be introduced in India next year. Honda Cars India’s Tapukara plant has already started supplying the 1.6-litre diesel motor for the crossover, which is being fitted in the Philippines-spec CR-V.
Leveraging profitability out of large common volumes, the Indian CR-V is also going to carry the same locally produced four-cylinder oil burner, which will produce 118bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 300Nm of peak torque at 2,000rpm.
With the Indian crash test norms coming into place for all new models from October this year, the India-bound CR-V is expected to offer solid build, boasting similar high safety ratings.
