In September this year, Honda Motor Co had announced its future product development programme for carbon neutrality, which includes the introduction of 10 new electric two-wheelers by 2025 as well as a number of flex-fuel models. The Japanese auto major revealed the first of those electric bikes at EICMA 2022 in the form of the EMI e electric scooter.
While specific product details are minimal, what is known is that this zero-emissions scooter will come with a Honda Mobile Power Pack, which essentially means that this scooter will get a removable battery. Honda hasn’t revealed any details regarding the capacity of this battery, but states that it will provide "over 40km" on a single charge. A short video released by the company shows an indicated range of 59km with the battery at 92% state of charge.
While the company has also not released any information on the powertrain, the images show that the Honda EM1 e uses a hub-mounted motor in what appears to be a 10-inch rear wheel. The electric scooter gets a large luggage rack at the rear, a 12-inch front wheel, a front disc brake and a telescopic front fork. The lighting is all-LED and the instrument console is a simple LCD unit.
Honda says that this scooter is targeted at a young demographic looking for easy, fun urban transport over short distances. This electric scooter will go on sale in Europe in the summer of 2023. There is no clarity at the moment as to whether it will be launched in India.
