Honda confirms plans to close Swindon factory in 2021

Japanese manufacturer cites commitment to electrification as reason behind closing plant, putting 3500 jobs at risk.

Honda has confirmed the expected closure of its Swindon plant in 2021, due to “unpredecented changes in the global automotive industry”.

Following widespread reports yesterday of the plant’s closure, the Japanese manufacturer today announced 'the proposal' to close its British manufacturing plant at the end of the current Civic’s lifecycle.
