Honda has introduced its new CB300R in the UK and the motorcycle comes tagged with a sticker price of 4,429 euros (Rs 352,000).
The entry-level, mid-capacity motorcycle belongs to the naked-sports category of motorcycles in Honda's portfolio, which also includes the CB125R and the bigger CB1000R.
The 146kg CB300R gets its styling cues from the elder sibling CB1000R, and is built on a rigid frame which mixes pressed and tubular steel for optimum rigidity and balance. The bike features 41mm USD forks upfront with radial-mount Nissin-sourced 4-piston caliper, hubless floating front disc, IMU-based ABS and Dunlop radial tyres.
Features usually found on much larger machines, like the tapered rubber-mounted aluminium handlebar, LCD instrument display and full LED lighting, are also on offer.
The CB300R comes powered by a 286cc DOHC, 4-valve, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine which generates 31.5bhp of peak power and 27.5Nm of peak torque and the motor comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.
A CB300R for India?
With the motorcycle segment in India slowly inching towards mid-size bikes and scooters taking over commuter duties, the CB300R could very well be an answer from Honda to the current market situation, where competitors are seeing much success with some recent 300cc motorcycles brought in into the market.
While the KTM Duke and RC 390 twins have reigned supreme in the enthusiast-driven segment for quite sometime, homegrown TVS Motors’ recently introduced Apache 310R too has taken the market by storm. With BMW Motorrad also all set to enter the lucrative segment to grab a share of the pie with its upcoming BMW G310R, the Honda CB300R could be a potent model from HMSI to take on the competition and execute its potential in the premium sports category space.
