India-bound Chinese PV manufacturer Great Wall Motors has sold more than 1 million units globally. The brand has some major plans for India and everything will be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Great Wall Motors (GWM), the Chinese PV manufacturer, has reported a global sale of 1,060,298 vehicles in 2019, a YoY growth of 0.69 percent. The OEM claims that this is the fourth continuous year that an over million sale has been made. Export-wise also, the company claims that it saw a YoY rise of 38 percent with 65,175 units. Great Wall Motors sold 106,008 vehicles in the month of December.
As per reports, the sales of Haval, Wey, Ora and Great Wall Pickup have reached 769,454, 100,043, 38,865 and 148,830 respectively. The company claims that Haval harvests its 10th continuous championship of annual sales in the SUV market in China; Wey becomes the first Chinese luxury brand to achieve the sales volume of 300,000 vehicles; Ora R1, the most popular model of GWM’s Ora family, increases the fastest in the A00 segment market of new energy vehicle and Great Wall Pickup keeps holding its position of the best sales in 22 continuous years.
GWM has confirmed that it has sold 769,454 units of Haval SUV in China in 2019 and has thus been honoured as the sales champion of Chinese SUV. It has sold 78,931 units of the SUV brand in December 2019. Up to now, the accumulative sales of Haval all over the world has been approaching 5.80 million vehicles. The Haval H6 accounted for 386,405 units in 2019 with 41,706 units sold in December 2019. The Haval F7, which is promoted as the first global car as a Chinese brand sold a total of 140,770 units in 2019 with 10,333 units being sold in the month of December.
Out of the 100,043 vehicles sold in 2019 under the Wey brand, the top-selling was the VV6 SUV with 57,724 units (4,855 units in December).
In the EV segment, GWM sold 38,865 units under the Ora brand. It sold 2,653 units in December 2019, thus registering a YoY growth of 151 percent. The top-selling car under this brand was the Ora R1 with 28,498 units (2,303 sold in December 2019).
Great Wall Motors sold 148,830 units of its pickup vehicles in 2019. It currently has two vehicles under its pickup portfolio.
In 2019, the new vehicle sales volume of GWM in the overseas market reached 65,175, witnessing YoY growth of 38.68 percent. GWM is planning further expansion and development with its global vision in 2020.
GWM has set up overseas R&D centres in Japan, U.S., Germany, India, Austria and South Korea in succession. An R&D layout headquartered in Baoding and covering ‘seven countries and ten regions’ in Europe, Asia and North America has been constructed and independent R&D teams with international qualification, consisting of the world's top automobile engineers, designers and IT experts, has been established. It is perfecting the ‘9+5’ global production layout. In China, within the ‘gold triangle’ of the three major automobile manufacturing regions of North China, East China and South China, the eight all-process manufacturing bases at Baoding, Xushui, Tianjin, Chongqing Yongchuan, Pinghu, Taizhou, Rizhao and Zhangjiagang will cover up the whole domestic market and became the strong backup for GWM's globalization. In the view of the world, the Tula Plant in Russia is definitely the bridge tower through which GWM will march into the European market. Together with KD plants in Ecuador, Malaysia and Tunisia, it constructs a solid foundation and support for the development of GWM in overseas market.
China's Great Wall Motors (GWM), which has recently announced its entry into the Indian passenger vehicle market with its Haval brand had recently announced an agreement with General Motors in India to acquire the latter’s Talegaon manufacturing facility. Great Wall Motors is still awaiting the requisite government and regulatory approvals for GM’s facility.
In 2019, GWM achieved phased accomplishments in the global market. GWM reports that its products have been approved in central and eastern European market. With a year-on-year increase of 458 percent, GWM ranked the first among all Chinese automobile manufacturers for its sales in Russia. In Asia-Pacific region, GWM has fully taken over the two major markets of Australia and New Zealand. GWM claims to be the No.1 Chinese brand for its excellent sales volume in the market of South Africa.
Great Wall Motors’s entry to India comes hot on the heels of MG’s successful launch in India of its feature-rich and large-for-its-price Hector SUV. GWM is participating at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020.
