Suzuki has unveiled the new iK-2 concept at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show 2015. The Suzuki iK-2 is a premium hatchback which is expected to spawn a future production model that will be sold globally. Autocar India, Autocar Professional’s sister magazine, had snapped the production version of the Suzuki iK-2 concept (Maruti YRA) last year.
This new hatchback is expected to slot above the Swift in Suzuki’s global line-up and will take on the likes of the Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz in global markets including India.
This concept unlike Suzuki usual hatchbacks and breaks the norm of the upright C-pillar look. Its rear slopes down and ends in a steeply raked windscreen. The iK-2’s side reveals pronounced haunches and a window line that rises towards the rear. Expect the production version of this concept to be much wider and longer than the Maruti Swift.
The Suzuki iK2 concept measures 4023mm long, 1920mm wide and 1450mm tall along with a wheelbase of 2520mm. It sits on 18-inch alloy wheels in the concept form but expect it to come to India with 15-inchers.
The Suzuki iK-2 concept is equipped with a new 1.0-litre BoosterJet motor – a direct-injection turbo-petrol unit. Suzuki has confirmed that the production version of the iK-2 concept will be launched in European markets in 2016. Maruti will most likely showcase it at the Auto Expo 2016 early next year.
