Introduced in 1957, Fiat has sold over six million units of the 500 model and Fiat has launched 30 special editions of the 500 over the past 11 years, including the Abarth. The new Collezione special edition comes after the launch of the limited editions 500-60esimo and the Anniversario, which were released last year to commemorate its 60 years.
The great little iconic Fiat is sold in over 100 countries worldwide. Over 80 percent of sales are outside Italy and for five years Fiat had showcased it as the bestseller in Europe in its segment, with a market share of 14.6% at the end of 2017. Furthermore, Fiat states that in its eleventh year, nearly 60,000 units were sold in Europe during the third quarter of 2018 - an all-time record for the current 500 and during the first quarter of 2018, the 500 was the market leader in nine countries (UK, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, Austria, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia) and was in the top three in seven others (Italy, Germany, France, Sweden, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria).
Productions at the Tychy plant began in 2007 and that is when the new models were introduced. The plant produces 200,000 units in a year, including the Abarth. FCA recognizes it as one of the most advanced factories in the world and it even has a World Class manufacturing Gold certification.
Fiat India Automobiles, a subsidiary of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, imports the 160hp Abarth 595 to India with the on-road price in Mumbai coming to Rs 40 lakh.
